Nestled in the scenic foothills of the Allegheny River lies the City of Salamanca, New York. Historically this territory was that of the Native American Wenrohronon but in the Beaver Wars of the 1650s the Seneca Nation took over. Located on Seneca Nation of Indians Territory (one of the six tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy), the population is about 6,000 with approximately 20% Native American. It is in a busy section of the Southern Tier being just 60 miles South of Buffalo, 35 miles East of Jamestown, 22 miles West of Olean, and 20 miles North of Bradford, PA. The Allegany State Park, the largest State Park in New York State, lies immediately to the South, right in Salamanca's back yard. This year-round active park can be reached via Parkway Drive located in the City.

Salamanca Ice Pond on Fawn Avenue
Due to changing weather conditions, the natural ice surface is now officially closed for the season. Warmer temperatures make it unsafe for skating, and we want to ensure everyone stays safe. The good news? Our synthetic ice surface remains OPEN and ready for skating! You can still lace up your skates and enjoy the ice, just on the synthetic side. We’re grateful to have this option so our community can keep skating even when Mother Nature has other plans. Please help us spread the word. Stay safe and see you on the (synthetic) ice! Hours of operation will be: Saturday and Sunday 1:00 - 9:00pm Monday - Friday 3:00 - 9:00pm |

The City and Seneca Nation held a joint groundbreaking for the construction of a skate park to be located at Crowley Park of River Street in Salamanca on Monday, December 1st, 2025.
Final touches, landscaping, and a grand opening are slated for Spring 2026.
"The Skatepark Project is excited to join the Seneca Nation in celebrating the groundbreaking for two new skateparks within the Seneca Nation territories. These two skateparks represent the completion of 13 skateparks in Western New York via The Skatepark Project's Built to Play program, from Rochester, to Buffalo, to Salamanca, and everywhere in between. This partnership between the Seneca Nation, The Skatepark Project, and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation will offer free recreational opportunities for young people throughout the Nation for decades to come. We look forward to the grand opening celebrations in early 2026." ~ Benjamin Anderson Bashein, Chief Executive Officer, The Skatepark Project
